“No one wants to sit next to a vacuum cleaner at 6 p.m.—but the office still needs to be clean.”
– Jonas Kölblin, Team Leader, Facility Management, JobRad GmbH
The Starting Point: Hybrid Work Meets Over 700 Workstations
The world of work has changed radically, and fixed office hours are a thing of the past in many places. This was precisely the challenge facing the company JobRad at its Freiburg location. With over 700 workstations and an average occupancy rate of around 50 percent, the office is a prime example of modern, flexible work models.
Employees come into the office flexibly, which means workstations are used with varying intensity. For facility management, this meant that traditional cleaning schedules were increasingly out of sync with actual usage patterns, and cleaning staff often didn’t know exactly when specific areas were actually in use. Nevertheless, all employees expect a clean workspace at all times.
The Solution: Autonomous Overnight Cleaning in a Network
To meet these complex requirements, JobRad developed a forward-looking cleaning concept in collaboration with the cleaning service provider SAN2GO. The solution combines traditional maintenance cleaning with modern, autonomous robotics.
Since the building features large contiguous carpeted areas, clearly structured zones, and relatively few obstacles, it was ideally suited for automation. A total of 33 Nexaro vacuum robots were integrated into regular operations. The devices now handle carpet cleaning of the vast 16,000 m² of office space completely autonomously. Cleaning takes place completely undisturbed in the late evening and night hours between 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. The entire fleet is controlled and monitored centrally via the Nexaro HUB, which allows cleaning zones to be flexibly adjusted as needed.
Impact in Operation: Top Quality Without Compromising Data Privacy
The rollout of the robotic solution went smoothly: Within a few days, the areas were set up and the system was able to transition to regular operation. Jonas Kölblin’s assessment is thoroughly positive: Cleaning quality has noticeably improved, while cleaning now fits much better into the flexible daily work routine. Employees are no longer disturbed and still always find a spotless work environment.
Timo Wagner, Operations Manager at SAN2GO, also views the project as a complete success. It impressively demonstrates how robotics and traditional building cleaning can work effectively hand in hand. While the 33 Nexaro robots reliably handle recurring vacuuming tasks, the cleaning team can focus on activities that absolutely require human expertise. Another decisive factor for JobRad in choosing Nexaro: Thanks to their special sensor technology, the robots are 100% GDPR-compliant, a must for sensitive office environments.
