In commercial cleaning, the LiDAR sensor is the key component that enables the Nexaro NR 1700 to navigate complex buildings safely and autonomously.
The LiDAR sensor in the Nexaro NR 1700
Whilst simple robot vacuum cleaners often rely solely on collision detection or basic cameras, the Nexaro NR 1700 uses a rotating laser scanner on its top:
- 360° panoramic view: The sensor continuously scans the entire surroundings to detect walls, columns and furniture.
- Light-independent operation: Unlike camera-based systems, a LiDAR sensor works absolutely reliably even in complete darkness – ideal for night-time cleaning in offices.
- Precise object detection: Even narrow obstacles such as table legs are detected early on, allowing the robot to navigate gently around them rather than bumping into them.
Complementary sensor technologies to the LiDAR sensor
To guarantee 100% safety and efficiency, the LiDAR sensor in the Nexaro ecosystem works in conjunction with other sensor types:
- Ultrasonic sensors: These are used for short-range detection. They ‘hear’ obstacles such as glass walls or dark surfaces, which sometimes absorb laser beams, thereby preventing collisions.
- Fall protection (cliff sensors): Infrared sensors on the underside of the Nexaro NR 1700 continuously measure the distance to the floor. If the sensor detects a step or a drop, the robot stops immediately.
- Infrared sensors: These support precise navigation when docking at the charging station and complement obstacle avoidance in the immediate vicinity.
The advantages of laser navigation in commercial premises
The use of a high-quality LiDAR sensor makes cleaning predictable and safe:
- Protection of fixtures and fittings: Contactless obstacle detection protects furniture and skirting boards.
- Maximum area efficiency: As the robot has a precise understanding of its surroundings, it avoids unnecessary double-passing and always finds the most direct route.
- Safety for people: In dynamic environments where people are moving, the system reacts immediately and adjusts its route in real time.
Precision as the foundation for productivity
The LiDAR sensor is far more than just a technical component – it is the prerequisite for reliable automated cleaning. In conjunction with the Nexaro HUB, it ensures that the Nexaro NR 1700 performs its tasks with surgical precision, no matter how challenging the environment.
