Fizz & Froth: Autonomous Vacuuming at Marston’s Headquarters

Marston’s deployed two Nexaro NR 1700 autonomous vacuum robots — internally known as “Fizz” and “Froth” — at its Wolverhampton Headquarters to support vacuuming across two floors of busy, open-plan office space.

The 1,800 m² mixed environment (hard floor and carpet) is home to collaborative teams and experiences high daily foot traffic, particularly through wide connecting corridors. Maintaining a clean, welcoming and professional workspace is important for employee wellbeing and productivity.

The Challenge

Previously, manual vacuuming across the site required approximately 10 hours per week, making consistent daily coverage across large open areas operationally demanding.

Maintain consistent vacuuming standards

across 1,800 m² of open-plan office space

Manage high foot traffic

in wide corridors

Support overnight vacuuming

without disruption

Reduce

repetitive manual vacuuming workload

Allow cleaning teams

to focus on detailed and high-touch areas

The Solution

Two Nexaro NR 1700 units were deployed to vacuum the open areas autonomously, operating nightly from 19:00 and completing their cycles in the early hours of the morning.

No-go zones were configured around cables, storage boxes and communal seating areas, while cleaning operatives continue to vacuum detailed and inaccessible areas on a weekly basis.

The robots’ combination brush enables effective vacuuming across both hard floors and carpet, ensuring consistent performance throughout the mixed-surface environment.

A small robot vacuum cleans the carpet near a potted plant in a sunlit modern office space.

A small, modern robot moves along a carpeted office hallway with glass walls and potted plants.

Two robot vacuums clean the floor in a modern, dimly lit office with desks, chairs, and plants.

"Our headquarters is a busy and collaborative environment, and maintaining a clean and welcoming workspace is important for our teams. The autonomous vacuuming solution has delivered consistent overnight coverage across our open areas, while allowing our cleaning teams to focus on detailed work and high-touch areas."

Andy Kershaw, Director of Investment, Marston’s Plc

The Results

Beyond financial impact, the deployment delivers consistent overnight vacuuming, improved presentation of open areas, and operational relief for the cleaning team.

Significant reduction in manual vacuuming requirements

with only minimal weekly time now required for maintenance and inaccessible areas

First-year net benefit

of over £8000 (based on current operating assumptions)

Annual savings

of over £16,000 from Year 2 onwards

Cumulative net benefit

exceeding £24,000 by the end of Year 2

"This deployment demonstrates how autonomous vacuuming can support large corporate office environments by delivering measurable efficiency gains while improving consistency. It’s a strong example of how robotics and professional cleaning teams can work together to raise standards."
